FEI Space
FEI space is a welcome addition to the 798 Art Factory District, and showcases
some of China’s most original fashion, home furnishing and accessory
designs. The gallery is the first one in the hip 798 district to focus entirely
on design.
FEI is the brainchild of Ms. LinJing, Guangzhou-born
and educated at the Beijing Central Academy of Fine
Arts and the Brussels Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Lin,
lived in the FEI loft space, as one of the earliest
residents of 798 Art Factory District. She and her
family recently moved out and converted the residential
loft space into FEI’s retail showroom. The space
still has a homey informal feel to it, despite its
massive size and dramatic ceiling and window height.
FEI’s owners aim to make the loft showroom a
laboratory-like space for contemporary design experimentation,
with alternating exhibits of whatever new design ideas
and innovations grab the attention of its owners.
Lin’s partners in FEI are fellow designer Chen
Maomao also from China and journalist Manuela Parrinao,
from Italy. The trio aim to make FEI a welcome haven
for contemporary design lovers who can visit frequently
in order to discover fresh new talent, and to get an
early peek at the latest design ideas from China and
elsewhere.
